YOY Book Club: The Glass Castle

glass castle

Earlier this year I read the memoir The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls, an intriguing real life inspired story of a girl’s life through poverty and into college.

The story begins in the desert where she and her nomadic family lived most of her young life, and follows her and her family through their journey. This story brings to light many of the struggles of poverty and youth, as well as the strength of persistence and a strong heart. Filled with with real life issues and conflicts, this story keeps you constantly interested. I found the book to be beautiful, and inspiring. It shows that if you truly want something, work for it and even the most unlikely person can succeed against all odds. This is a great read for young adults who can accept the hard truth.
